  The world is ending, and you are still paying rent. A future history.

  • Winner, Outstanding Worldbuilding, Outstanding Scence Fiction Game, Outstanding Game in an Uncommon System (author's choice) at the 2022 IFDB Awards

• New Year's Eve, 2019 (April 2022, updated December 2022) (IFDB/Play here):

  Social gatherings are not your preferred activity. But this one is obligatory, and it threatens to ruin you. You are Karen Zhao, a senior in college who is home for winter break, and seeing your old high school friends for the first time in years. You are not ready, not even close, but perhaps you could make the best of it. Two endings, many paths to arrive there. This is a sequel to Pageant, but it should not be necessary to have played it.

  • Nominated for Best Characters, Best Writing, and Most Achingly True to Life, among others at Spring Thing 2022
  • Winner, Outstanding Slice of Life Game at the 2022 IFDB Awards


• A Paradox Between Worlds (October 2021) (IFDB/Play here):

  It is the year 201X, and the Nebulaverse fandom is on fire. You are a teen online, and your safe place is about to be torn apart. A Paradox Between Worlds is a game about fandoms, internet melodrama, and the stories we create for ourselves.

  • Ranked 10/71 at IFComp 2021
  • Won the Golden Banana of Discord for the game with the highest variance of ratings.


• Pageant (November 2020) (IFDB/Play here):

  An interactive story about a girl who joins a beauty pageant to improve her college applications. This is my first storylet-based game, heavily inspired by Bee by Emily Short, and it took me over 4 years to write. A surprising number of people have liked it, or called it relatable, apparently.



• Great-grandmother and the war (April 2017) (IFDB/Play here):

  A twine story set in WW2-era China about history, family, and suffering. And maybe love. This was one of my first published games, and I don't think it's my best, but maybe it deserves to exist.

I helped to rebuild Emily Short's Bee in dendry, making the complete game available to play again.

Created the Goncharov Game Jam in 2022.

I've helped to organize a variety of game jams as part of the Neo-Interactives.

Programming projects

I'm working on Dendry, a javascript engine for making storylet-based interactive fiction. It's currently my favorite IF platform, and the engine behind Pageant and NYE2019.

Script to add itch.io games to IFDB.

Scripts to scrape games from the IFComp website and collect information from IFDB.

Data analysis of published Hosted Games from Choice of Games (forum post).

Prediction of IFComp 2021 results based on previous IFComp results
